Welcome to
Glenrock! Named for the large rock in
the glen just west of the community’s
current location, Glenrock got its
beginnings as a rest stop and crossroads
of the major westward trails. The
Oregon, Bozeman, Texas, California and
Mormon trails all came together along
Deer Creek and the Platte River. Soon it
became the site of the Deer Creek
Station and Stage Stop. Coal was
discovered in the area and Glenrock soon
became a mining town. Soon the mines
played out by oil were found in the
area. Once again, the boom was on. Be
sure to stop by the Deer Creek Museum
and the Glenrock Paleontological Museum
to see historic artifacts from the
surrounding area. Home to 2,231 people.
